Margaret Long, 80, of Rock Rapids, Iowa, died Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids.
Funeral service was Monday, May 3, at the Christian Church (Disciples), Rock Rapids, with interment in Fairview, South Dakota.
Margaret Lenora Matzen was born Nov. 13, 1940, at Canton, South Dakota, daughter of Albert and Lenette (Whitehead) Matzen. She grew up near Inwood, Iowa, and when she was in high school her family moved to a farm east of Lakewood Corner and later to a farm north of Rock Rapids. She attended school at Inwood and graduated from Rock Rapids High School in 1958.
On Feb.14, 1959, she married Larry Long. They lived at Lakewood Corner before moving to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Larry was drafted into the U.S. Army and they moved Washington. After his honorable discharge, the couple moved back to Sioux Falls. She worked as an office assistant for various companies in northwest Iowa and the Sioux Falls area. While living in Valley Springs, South Dakota, the couple owned the grocery store and later a café. They later retired to Rock Rapids.
Survivors include her husband; daughter, Rhonda (Jim) Peskey of Florida; many grandchildren; siblings, Rollys (Kenny) Kahl and Terry (Denise) Matzen, all of Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law, Rick (Pat) Long of Rock Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Becky Long, and sister, Janice Bosler.
