Richard Leenderts, 91, of Hills, Minnesota, died Monday, July 27, 2020, at Tuff Memorial Home in Hills.
Funeral service was Friday, July 31, at the Jurrens Funeral Home, Rock Rapids, with interment in Eastside Cemetery, Steen, Minnesota.
Richard Eugene Leenderts was born May 27, 1929, near Ellsworth, Minnesota, son of Abel and Rakie (Mulder) Leenderts. He grew up near Steen and attended school a Lyon County District Country School.
On Jan. 19, 1951, he married Hendrene Beyenhof. He worked as a hired hand, then served in the U.S. Army from October 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1953. The couple lived in Hills. He had a milk route from 1951-1960 when he began working at Hills elevator. He left the elevator in October 1969 to work for IBP in Luverne, Minnesota, where he was employed until 1983. He then began working for Rock County Co-op until retiring in May 1995. After retiring, drove the preschool van for the Hills-Beaver Creek School 14 years. He entered Tuff Memorial Home in June 2020.
Survivors include four children, Coni (Wally) Hagedorn of Venice, Florida, Darrell (Melanie) Leenderts of Harrisburg, South Dakota, Arlen (Lois) Leenderts of Hills and Brenda (Scott) Smith of Prior Lake, Minnesota; nine grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, sisters, Reva Hoff and Henrietta Hughes, and brothers, Leonard (Delores) and Harold (Torborg).
He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-one years; his parents and brother, Jim.
