A second round of heavy rainfall plagued the area again last week, resulting in a number of residents filling sandbags cleaning out their waterlogged basements and even filling sandbags Monday, June 25.
Thunderstorms Monday morning, June 25, dumped another 3-5 inches of rain throughout parts of the county, especially in areas between Rock Rapids and Lester. By early afternoon, volunteers had gathered at the city shop between South Second Avenue and South Third Avenue in Rock Rapids to begin filling sandbags.
Volunteers began boarding up buildings on North Union Street as Moon Creek threatened to spill into the low-lying area. Several people helped clear all the cans out of the Denny’s Sanitation can redemption center building. However, the creek began to recede by Monday afternoon. The Rock River crept a bit higher throughout the day, but didn’t reach the depths it had reached a few days earlier.
