Gerrit “Gary” Vande Kamp, 84, of George, Iowa, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2020, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Private funeral services were Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Jurrens Funeral Home, George, with interment in Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley, Iowa.
Gerrit Anthony Vande Kamp was born Aug. 6, 1936, at Maurice, Iowa, son of Albert and Marie (de Boom) Vande Kamp. He grew up on a farm between George and Doon, Iowa.
On Aug. 6, 1958, he married Jean Velt Kamp. She passed away in April 1988.
On June 22, 1990, he married Arlis Bloem.
He worked several jobs throughout his life such as he first owned and operated Rock Rapids Machine and Welding in Rock Rapids, Iowa, then for Hope Haven and Kooima Company in Rock Valley and Sudenga Industries in George. After his retirement, he worked for Dave Visser for a time.
Survivors include his wife; three children, Kristi (Gary) Baker of Doon, Kelly (Joey) Griffith of Hospers, Iowa, and Konni Vande Kamp of Sioux Falls; three step-children, Kevin (Sharon) Tjepkes of Sibley, Iowa, Brenda (Greg) Janssen of Le Mars, Iowa, and Paula Tjepkes of George; son-in-law, Darwin Van Anken of Doon; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; four siblings, Jeanne Koel, Mary (John) Davelaar, Alwayne (Freddy) Vande Kamp and Lyle (Joan) Vande Kamp; many nieces nephews and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; daughter, Kathy Van Anken, and brother, Charles Vande Kamp.
