Gerald “Jerry” Huisman, 81, of Ellsworth, Minnesota, died Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Parkview Manor in Ellsworth, Minnesota.
Funeral services were Saturday, May 13, at Bethel Reformed Church, rural Ellsworth, with interment in the church cemetery.
Gerald H. “Jerry” Huisman was born Oct. 27, 1935, in Lyon County, Iowa, the son of Klaas and Anna (Eeten) Huisman. He attended country school and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1953.
On Feb. 24, 1962, he married Karen Kay Hubers. They lived in Rock Rapids for a short time while he worked at Farmer’s Co-op Elevator in Ellsworth. They moved to Minneota, Minnesota, where he was an on-the-road salesman before returning to Ellsworth in 1963 when he became assistant manager at Farmers Co-op Elevator. In 1968 he was hired by Cominco American Inc. to manage a fertilizer plant in Ellsworth.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Lisa Huisman of Ellsworth; sons, Greg (Dawn) of Ellsworth and Brant (Jennifer) of Luverne, Minnesota; six grandchildren; sisters, Anita (Virgil) Wiertzema of Worthington, Minnesota, and Lorraine (Arnold) Baron of Visalia, California; sisters-in-law, Shirley Huisman of Rock Rapids, Judy Huisman of Rock Rapids, Sandra (Don) Scholten of Sioux Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Pearl Huisman, Gladys Fiihr and Bernice Walters; six brothers, Weert, George, Fred, Art, Clifford and Russel; brothers-in-law, Leo Fiihr and Hank Walters; sisters-in-law, Margaret (Weert) Huisman, Elsie (Fred) Huisman and Shirley (Art) Huisman.
