Elmer Benjamin Veldkamp, 93, of Jasper, Minnesota, died Saturday, May 9, 2020, at Bethany Home in Brandon, South Dakota.
Private family funeral was Wednesday, May 13, with interment in Jasper City Cemetery.
Elmer was born Feb. 20, 1927, near Rock Valley, Iowa, to Aalt and Dena (Ruisch) Veldkamp. He attended country school through eighth grade. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served from October 1945 to November 1946.
On Dec. 21, 1948, he married Greta Verdoorn. They farmed near Rock Rapids, Iowa, until the spring of 1955, when they purchased a farm near Jasper, Minnesota, retiring from farming in 1988.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Jim Veldkamp, Loren (Bonnie) Veldkamp and Leroy (Denise) Veldkamp, all of rural Jasper; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Harley Rossow and J.C. McKnight, and a sister-in-law, Lorraine Rossow.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Verlyn Veldkamp; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Veldkamp; five sisters, Jeanette Beyer, Alice Kracht, Florence Birkhofer McKnight, Dorothy Rossow and Arvilla Veldkamp, and two brothers, Ben and Jim Veldkamp.
