Eileen Mary Murphy, 100, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019, at Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids, Iowa.
Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. with the Rosary at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at Miller Funeral Home, Sioux Falls. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Sioux Falls with interment in St. Michael Cemetery, Sioux Falls.
Eileen Hollaren was born May 11, 1919, in Rock Rapids to Frank and Pearl (Julian) Hollaren. After graduating from high school, she moved to Sioux Falls and attended Nettleton Commercial College, graduating in 1942. From 1942-1944, she worked as an executive secretary in the office of defense transportation in Sioux Falls and then transferred to the central office of the Veterans Administration, Department of Medical and Hospital Services in Washington, D.C., until 1946 when she transferred to the VA office in Los Angeles, California.
On May 8, 1946, she married Patrick Murphy. The couple returned to Sioux Falls in 1947. Her husband passed away in 1990. She moved to Rock Rapids Health Centre in December 2014.
Survivors include her children, Patrick (Judy) Murphy of Sioux Falls, Richard (Sandy) Murphy of Sioux Falls, Thomas (Jenny) Murphy of Pleasanton, California, and Sheila (LeRoy) Cynkar of Ft. Collins, Colorado; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and a sister, Barbara Hollaren of Rock Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two grandsons and five brothers.
