Dorothy M. Den Hartog, 88, of Sanborn, Iowa, passed away Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, at Prairie View Home, Sanborn.

Services were Monday, Sept. 25, at First Reformed Church, Sheldon, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery, rural Matlock, Iowa.

Dorothy Mae Sluijer was born April 5, 1929, near Matlock, the daughter of Ed and Sina (Heikens) Sluijer. She attended rural school.

On Jan. 3, 1947, she married Henry “Hein” Riemersma. The couple farmed on the home place from 1948-1964. They moved to Sheldon in 1964. She did laundry work for others for several years then became a nurse aide and worked in Sheldon Community Hospital four years. She then cleaned houses for others 23 years. Henry passed away Feb. 5, 1995. She married Don Den Hartog April 5, 1996. He passed away Dec. 17, 2000.

Survivors include her two sons, Bob (Marie) Riemersma and Jim (Linda) Riemersma, all of Sheldon; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Alice Sluijer of Sand Lake, Michigan, June Den Hartog of Sheldon and Jeanette Den Hartog of Pella, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Don (Glenda) Riemersma of Sheldon; a sister-in-law, Marion Riemersma of George, Iowa; two stepsons, Larry (Deb) Den Hartog of Sheldon and Dennis Den Hartog of Eldridge, Iowa; stepdaughter, Cheryl (Richard) Gruis of Marion, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; infant sister, Evelyn Doris Sluijer, great-granddaughter; brother, Loren Sluijer; brothers-in-law, Elmer Den Hartog, Lawrence Den Hartog and Howard Den Hartog and sisters-in-law, Jo Den Hartog, Ethel Kuyper and Lois Van Meeteren.
