Donald L. Kruger, 93 of George, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2020, at Good Samaritan Society in George.
A celebration of life service will be at a later date. Condolences to the family can be offered on the Jurrens Funeral Home website.
Donald L. Kruger was born Oct. 30, 1926, at Little Rock, Iowa, son of John and Etta Janssen (Kruger DeBerg )Schol. He grew up near Little Rock where he attended country school and later George schools through eighth grade.
On March 7, 1951, he married Leona M. Jans. They made their home at George. In his younger years, he worked at Siebring Manufacturing operating industrial machinery. He worked as a carpenter several years, was a town cop in George and sold Moorman’s Feeds for many years. After retirement from Moorman’s, he went back to work as a welder at Siebring Manufacturing a few years. He also guided fishing groups at Baker’s Point at Spirit Lake, Iowa. In March 2017, Don became a resident of Good Samaritan Society-George. He was a member of various bowling associations, 4-H sponsor and on the planning committee for the Lyon County Conservation Boardand helped plan the Lake Pahoja Reservoir.
Survivors include his wife; his children, Douglas (Marcene) Kruger of New Bern, North Carolina, Daryl Kruger of Wichita, Kansas, Denny (Diane) Kruger of Goessel, Kansas, and Lori (Todd) Carstensen of George; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a brother, Arvin (Gerry) DeBerg of Belding, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Kruger; brothers, John “Bud” (Helen) Kruger, Ira (Darlene) Kruger, Mearl (Alida) Kruger and Frances Kruger, and sisters, Elva (Art) Steenhoven, Hazel (Bill) Grotluschen and Katie (Ken) Petersen.
