Donald “Don” Duane Hager, 91, of Valley Springs, South Dakota, passed away Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at Bethany Home, Brandon, South Dakota.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with interment in Parkston Protestant Cemetery.
Donald Hager was born April 28, 1926, in Olivet, South Dakota, to Arthur and Hilda (Wentz) Hager. He was raised and received his education there. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Army.
On Aug. 28, 1949, he married Alice Mogck. He worked as a telegraph operator for the Milwaukee Railroad in Lewistown Montana, then for The Chicago and North-Western Railroad in Hubbard, Nebraska, until moving to Valley Springs in 1956. While there, he spent 33 years working as a salesman for the Livestock Commission in Sioux Falls, retiring in 1990. In his retirement, he worked 15 years at Red Wing Shoes.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Cindy (Norm) Kramer of Rock Rapids, Iowa, and Debra Donovan of Sedona, Arizona; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, Lynn (Marge) Hager of Shelbyville Tennessee; brother-in-law, Myron (Pat) Mogck of Parkston, South Dakota; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Fern Mogck, Jean Henniger, Audrey Johnson and Joyce Silcox; and one brother, Boyce Hager.
