David Groen, 69 of Little Rock, Iowa, died Saturday, April 18, 2020, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Fall, South Dakota.
Due to the mandated health care precautions, a private family service was Wednesday, April 22, with interment in Pleasant View Cemetery, Little Rock. Condolences to the family can be offered on the Jurrens Funeral Home website: www.jurrensfuneralhome.com.
David Lynn Groen was born Aug. 17, 1950, in Grant Township, Lyon County, Iowa, son of George and Frances (Krull) Groen. He grew up near Little Rock and graduated from Little Rock High School in 1968. He worked at the cement plant in Sibley but also continued to help on the farm. He served in the U.S. Army from June-November 1970 when his dad died and he returned home to help his family with the farm.
On Dec. 17, 1971, he married Carol Thiesse. They lived near Little Rock and Rock Rapids. They also lived by Mina Lake, South Dakota, and Plymouth, Wisconsin in the early 1980s. In addition to farming he worked at Sudenga Industries a short time and for K&O Manufacturing 13 years. In 2006 he retired from working due to failing health.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Althea (Kyle) Hooyer of Rock Rapids, Iowa, and Tiffany (Joseph) Clark of Howard, South Dakota; two grandchildren; sister, Kris Grave of George, Iowa; sister-in-law, Sandi Groen of Little Rock, and several other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gerald Groen.
