Bernice Van Maanen, 91, of Hull, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon, Iowa.

Memorial service was Monday, Aug. 7, at Calvary Protestant Reformed Church, Hull with interment in Hope Cemetery, Hull.

Theresa Bernice Hoekstra was born Dec. 2, 1925, near Boyden, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Florence Hoekstra.

On Sept. 4, 1947, she married Bert Van Maanen in Hull. They farmed near Doon, Iowa, until July 198, when they moved into Hull. Since November 2016 she has lived in Sheldon, mostly at Fieldcrest Memory Care Unit.

Survivors include seven children, Florence (Gary) Horstman of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Marjean (Roger) Buys of Hull, Brenda (Alvin) Bylsma of Hull, Alvina (Marlyn) Hofman of Sanborn, Iowa, Carol (Marv) Anema of Sanborn, Iowa, Evert (Kathy) Van Maanen of Doon and Jan (Wayne) Vander Maten of Boyden; 33 grandchildren; 94 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Florence Brunsting of Hull and Dorothy (Alvin) Mulder of Palm Springs, California; two brothers, Ted (Harriet) Hoekstra and Henry Hoekstra, all of Hull; four sisters-in-law, Margaret Hoekstra of Hull, Jane (Henry) Hoksbergen of Hull, Christine Van Maanen of Doon and Lois Van Maanen of Hull.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers and sisters, Eunice (Gerrit) Brummel, Martin (Stella) Hoekstra, George (Greda) Hoekstra, John (Nelva) Hoekstra, Donald Hoekstra, Ray Brunsting, Pete (Sharon) Hoekstra and Hillie Hoekstra, and Bert’s brothers and sisters, Ella (Andrew) Meendering, Roy (Grace) Van Maanen, Mina Hoekstra, Ed (Alyda) Van Maanen, Tom (Gerdena) Van Maanen and Harold Van Maanen
