Alvin “Al” John Van’t Land, 87, of Inwood, Iowa, passed Thursday, July 23, 2020, at Fellowship Apartments in Inwood.
Funeral services were Tuesday, July 28, at Inwood Christian Reformed Church with interment in Richland Cemetery, Inwood.
Al was born Sept. 30, 1932, near Inwood to John and Johanna (Juffer) Van’t Land. He grew up near Inwood, Larchwood and Lester, Iowa. He attended country grade schools and went to high school in Lester his freshman year and to Larchwood his remaining three years, graduating in 1950. He helped his father on the farm until being drafted in the Army in May 1953 and serving in Korea.
On Sept. 24, 1953, he married Marlene Kooistra. He worked briefly for a farmer near Rock Valley before taking a job in 1955 with Inwood Farmer’s Co-op, retiring Sept. 30, 1994. He served on the Inwood Christian School Board and was a member of American Legion Post #310.
Survivors include his wife; three children, Jim (Holly) of Castle Rock, Colorado, Rob (Bonnie) of Hull, Iowa, and Jo (Roger) Boon of Hull; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ray (Elaine) Van’t Land of Jenison, Michigan, and Marv (Judy) Van’t Land of Escondido, California; sisters, Arlene (Cliff) Vande Vegte of Escondido, and Mary (Ed) Blankespoor of Boyden, Iowa; in-laws, Harv (Florence) Kooistra of Grandville, Michigan, Lloyd (Marcene) Kempema of Greely, Colorado, Carol Van’t Land of Bloomington, Minnesota, and Arlene Kooistra of Hills, Minnesota, along with numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Martin and Jenny Kooistra; brothers, Ted (Irene) Van’t Land and Jake Van’t Land, and Marlene’s siblings, John Kooistra, Rich (Fonda) Kooistra and Willis (Ella Mae) Kooistra.
