Alida Van Engen, 87, of Rock Valley, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley. 

Funeral service was Monday, Oct. 7, at Faith Reformed Church, Rock Valley, with interment in Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. 

Alida Ione Jongerius was born Aug. 13, 1932, In Rock Rapids, Iowa, to William and Nellie (De Noble) Jongerius. She grew up near Lester, Iowa, and also resided for a short time in California. she went to country school through eighth grade and, later in life, obtained a high school GED from Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, Iowa. 

On Aug. 31, 1951, she married Marion Van Engen. The couple settled on the family farm near Lester. In July 2000 they retired and moved to Rock Valley. She moved to Whispering Heights in October 2018. 

Survivors include her husband; son, Lyle (Joyce) Van Engen of Rock Valley; daughter, Brenda (Don) De Boer of Sanborn, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and three sisters, Dorothy Rich, Trudy Dykstra and Sharon Ackerman. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Barry Van Engen; a brother, Duane Jongerius and his wife, Audrey; and brothers-in-law, Dave Dykstra, Peter Ackerman and Gary Rich.
