Verna Mae Klinkenborg, 77, of Parkersburg, Iowa, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa following complications post-surgery.
Services were Sept. 27 at Faith Lutheran Church in Parkersburg with the Rev. Matthew Brooks officiating.
Verna was born Jan. 13, 1936, in Sibley, Iowa, to George and Cleo (Gould) Freerksen. She received her education in George, Iowa and graduated high school in 1954. Verna attended St. Luke’s College of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa. In 1957 Verna was united in marriage to Culver Klinkenborg at Immanuel Lutheran Church in George. They made their home in Parkersburg for over 50 years. She worked as a registered nurse in hospitals in Minneapolis, Iowa City, Grundy Center, Waterloo and Cedar Falls and retired after serving several years as CEO at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Verna is survived by her husband, Culver Klinkenborg of Parkersburg; four sons, Paul Klinkenborg of Overland Park, Kan., Samuel Klinkenborg of Parkersburg, Charles Klinkenborg of Parkersburg and Robert (Tracy) Klinkenborg of Janesville, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Harry Freerksen of Tucson, Ariz.; and three sisters, Leah (Chuck) Henderson of Nevada, Mary (Curt) Willems of Arizona and Earlene Sproat of Nevada.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Cleo Freerksen, and two brothers, George and Ray Freerksen.
