Scott L. Vande Kop, 39, of Sioux Falls, died unexpectedly on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Sanford USD Medical Center. Services will be 11:00 AM Friday, Sept. 2 at Memorial Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, with burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation begins at 6:00 PM Thursday, Sept. 1 at the church, where the family will greet friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Scott Lee Vande Kop, son of Steve and Carol (Van Bochove) Vande Kop, was born December 28, 1971 in Rock Rapids, IA. As a child he moved with his family to Fairview, SD. In 1990, Scott graduated from Canton (SD) High School, where he was active in football and basketball. He then drove redi-mix truck for a time while also working at his dad’s business, Dakota Machine.
Scott was united in marriage with Hope Ediger on September 24, 1994 in Canton. He later worked at Midwest Precision Tool and Die for many years. Most recently, Scott helped his parents operate their assisted living center in Yankton, SD.
Scott was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. If he wasn’t laying in a field with his dad and brother waiting on ducks or geese, or if he didn’t have a line in the water, he wasn’t happy. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Hope; two children, Alex and Samantha Vande Kop, both at home; his parents, Steve and Carol Vande Kop, Yankton, SD; two siblings, Monte Vande Kop and his wife, Becky, Brookings, SD, Lethia Marienau and her husband, Mark, Hawarden, IA; his parents-in-law, Cary and Lorrie Ediger, Sioux Falls, SD; a brother-in-law, Matt Ediger, Sioux Falls, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
